I have over 15 years of experience teaching the violin, my principal instrument. Therefore, I have no problem giving lessons up to an intermediate/advanced level. I studied with the late great Ms. Paula Cooper for cello. Because of her incredible influence on my life and as a mentor, I feel very comfortable teaching up to intermediate level with the cello. I can also get someone well into knowing how to play the piano and viola.
I will, of course, teach you how to read music and count properly. I emphasize learning how to practice efficiently and I also really enjoy teaching the intricacies of music through theory. I believe that learning these instruments happens through honing a true skill for listening. In other words, I don't work with the tapes you might see on stringed instruments. Instead, I help you hear the best place for fingers and teach you tools for exercising your ears. I pride myself in trying to find the best path for any individual student and realize how important the relationship is that is formed after seeing someone every week for a year, or for a decade. I truly value and respect these relationships. I am always looking for students who have flexible minds and enthusiastic personalities. I teach 7 and 70 year olds alike. I truly just love helping people understand music better.
